We’re so excited to welcome you to Scotland for our wedding at Carlowrie Castle on Wednesday, September 30, 2026. While we haven’t reserved any room blocks, we’ve put together some helpful travel information and accommodation suggestions to make planning your trip as smooth as possible.

IMPORTANT TRAVEL NOTE

Prior to travel, a UK Travel Visa must be applied for and purchased. This is required for all UK travel and is valid for 2 years.

Getting to Scotland

- The closest major airport

- A 10–15 minute drive to Carlowrie Castle

- Most international guests will fly into Edinburgh

Glasgow Airport (GLA)

- Approximately 1 hour from the venue

- Another good option for international flights

Transportation Options

It is advised to not rent a car while in Edinburgh, it is a very “walkable” and public transportation friendly city.

First and Lothian Buses (City Wide Coverage)

- Single-journey adult ticket: £ 2.20 (CAD$ 4.06)

- Single-journey child ticket: £ 1.10 (CAD$ 2.03).

- Lothian adult DAY ticket: Lothian offers unlimited use of their buses and Edinburgh trams for one day for £ 5.50 (CAD$ 10.16). First Buses do not offer this type of ticket.

- Lothian child DAY ticket: £ 2.75 (CAD$ 5.08).

- Lothian Adult Airport DAY ticket: This ticket offers unlimited use of Lothian buses and trams and includes travel to and from Edinburgh Airport for one day for £ 9 (CAD$16.62). First Buses do not run to the airport. (This will be what we get for day 1)

- Lothian Child Airport DAY ticket: £ 4.50 (CAD$ 8.31).

Edinburgh Tram (Best for Airport & New Town)

- While not nearly as extensive as the bus system, the tram is the best way to get from the airport to the center of Edinburgh.

- There are 23 stops along the tram line. The line begins at the Edinburgh Airport, runs through the heart of the city, and ends in Newhaven near Edinburgh's port.

- Popular stops along the way include Princes’ Street and the Port of Leith.

- The ride out of the airport takes approximately 35 minutes, and trams arrive every 7 minutes.

Where To Stay

Best Overall: Central Edinburgh (Old Town & New Town)

Best for: First-time visitors, sightseeing, dining, and easy transportation

Staying in central Edinburgh gives you the full experience, historic streets, great restaurants, shops, and easy access to taxis and public transportation. It’s the most convenient option if you plan to explore the city before or after the wedding.

Approximately 20–30 minutes to Carlowrie Castle by taxi

Walkable to major attractions

Wide range of hotels and budgets

Stockbridge

Best for: Boutique stays and a local feel

Stockbridge is a trendy, residential neighbourhood known for independent shops, cafés, and boutique guesthouses. It’s a great choice if you want something quieter than the city centre but still very accessible.

Approximately 20–25 minutes to the venue

Walkable neighbourhood with great dining

Ideal for boutique hotels or Airbnbs

Edinburgh Airport Area

Best for: Convenience and short stays

Staying near the airport can be practical for guests with early flights or those who want the shortest possible trip to the venue.

Approximately 10–15 minutes to Carlowrie Castle

Easy access to taxis and rental cars

Less central for sightseeing
